E Light Continues Work at North Suburban Medical Center

E Light Electric Services, Inc., a commercial electrical contractor, is proud to announce the North Suburban Medical Center (NSMC) surgery renovation project is almost complete. Located in Thornton, Colorado, this project includes a three-phase operating room expansion and renovation. Additionally, E Light was also awarded the new, stand-alone emergency department that is under construction at the corner of 128th Street and Holly Street, seven miles northeast of the main NSMC hospital.

Surgery Addition/Renovation

North Suburban Medical Center is a 157-bed, medical-surgical hospital that has served North Denver communities for the past 25 years. This three-phase, 20,000 square foot expansion and renovation includes: 6 operating rooms, 8 PACUs (pediatric acute care units), an isolation room, recovery rooms and an outpatient area. The facility also includes a multi-million dollar da Vinci surgical system. This three-armed robotic device aids surgeons in precise medical procedures.

The final phase of this project includes the renovation of the existing operating rooms, which will wrap up in February 2012. With the completion of this project, the facility is in the process of being upgraded to a Level 3 Trauma Center.

Challenges with this job included connecting existing operating rooms with the adjacent new and renovated area. A quiet workplace was enforced at all times, with only a wall separating construction workers from surgeons operating on patients. All scheduled shutdowns were completed off hours for the facility to remain operational.

The surgery addition/renovation project team includes: General Contractor, J.E. Dunn Construction Company; Architect, Gould Turner Group P.C.; Engineer, Mazzetti Nash Lipsey Burch; and Electrical Subcontractor, E Light Electric Services, Inc. E Light has completed other medical projects such as the Swedish Medical Center tower renovation and expansion and the new, Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Emergency Department

“Our continued success with our client, J.E. Dunn Construction, has afforded us another project,” said E Light President/CEO, Perry Herrmann. “E Light Electric is also constructing a new emergency department for the NSMC campus.”

The new 11,000 square foot, stand-alone emergency department includes 10 patient rooms, radiation, CT scan, trauma, triage, laboratory and office space. A new helipad with navigation lighting is located on the east side of the building to service AIRLIFE helicopters for the surrounding community. Completion is scheduled for April 2012.

The emergency department project team includes: General Contractor, J.E. Dunn Construction Company; Architect, Perkins & Will; Engineer, CCRD Partners, and Electrical Subcontractor, E Light Electric Services, Inc.
